In my practice, I examine the relationship between materiality, tactile experiences and play. I approach exploring and manipulating materials as a performance with material in relation to body movement.
My practice establishes a contemporary response to process art, I follow the methodologies of Richard Serra, who employs a comprehensive verb list to explore the materiality and physical properties of various mediums. Contrary to the traditional methods of process artists, I also apply the verb list to simultaneously investigate a specific line of inquiry. My most recent inquiry has been to investigate what actions can be used to animate sculptures and form narrative. I have explored various mediums to see which is more successful in fulfilling my investigations, including clay, plaster and malleable handmade sculptures. Inspired by the immersive installations of Olafur Eliasson and the interactive sculptures of Ernesto Neto, my practice represents a contemporary response to materiality and play.
