Comfort, is it worth it? [Read more]
Final exhibition
My Final exhibition includes a photographic triptych. Through this artwork I have contested the oppression of down in a hope to change the present circumstances. When buying a down product such as a pillow or a duvet it is rare that the buyer would stop to think about where the feathers have come from, they would understand that an animal was involved in the procedure but, may not question how and the nature of the process when the idea of comfort comes into play. My practice aims to dismantle this sanitation of dead animals and cruelty through an activist perspective which challenges the brutality of the down feather industry with the intention of discouraging viewers from buying these products and any others that could involve animal cruelty.

Today's culture has normalised institutional cruelty through images that sterilise and celebrate the utilisation of animal bodies through current food systems and consumerism. My work brings this issue to light by exposing the cruelty of the down feather industry, primarily through black and white photography.
The inspiration for work comes from growing up on a farm that is devoted to the proper care and rescue of animals. I have research into the down feather industry and its cruel processes exploring the topic through various mediums. As pieces of art activism, I aim to inform and raise awareness of the brutality of the down feather industry with clear and powerful black and white photography, so that the viewer may begin to ethically question the procedures that are fundamental to this industry and others like it. This project allowed me to investigate my passion for photography further, affirming that my plans for the future lie within the field of photography and drawing.
