Through realist drawings, my practice records the 'act' of self-portraiture; further seeking to capture honesty, my practice consequently invites an intimate viewer experience.
I am fascinated in maintaining drawings significance within a contemporary framework. The immediacy of drawing heightens the intimate relationship that develops between the viewer and the artist being viewed, a development invaluable to the response of my self-portrait series. The instinctiveness, intricacy, and gestural marks evident through drawing provoke a sense of liveliness and motion, as the artists hand shows, capturing an essence of the creator on the surface of the paper. Commissioned artwork, working with clients, would be something I’d love to do; it would reflect my skill set, evident in my affinity for portraiture and realism. My preference for aesthetic art, more so than conceptual art, means I would also love to be an artworker, illustrating and developing designs for a contemporary company.
