Allegories: Subverting the social stratification system [Read more]
'Allegory' , oil paints on canvas, 180 x 135cm, 2020.
Through the figurative realistic portrait, I invite debates and encourage the viewers to interpret my work as an allegory to address social determinants of health and eradicate the social stratification system. The painting ‘Allegory’ is meant to keep an ambiguous interpretation since I am inviting each viewer to engage with the portrayed subject accordingly depending on their own views and experiences. I pursue critical thinking with the use of an enigmatic person, as viewers are unaware of his social background since no information has been given. The mysteriousness of the subject portrayed is an experiment by proving the great importance of the subconscious mind while emphasising the diversity of perception based on the social background.

The motive behind my practise is driven by my passion of empowering and helping individuals. With intention of decoding and exploring the human while focusing on the sociocultural perspective, I aim to raise awareness of the sociopolitical issues which are affecting our generation. To achieve that,I use figurative, realistic painting as an allegory to subvert the social stratification system.
My passion for painting is a form of expression and a way of interpreting my views and beliefs.

Experience
By working at Skynjam, Cyprus as the designer and creator of personalised phone cases, made it possible to gain a deeper understanding of a real business environment. Despite the challenges of working in a real environment I was flexible and adaptable, responding to any demanding challenge.
I also experienced a real life occupation by working as a tutor at Sketch School of Art in Cyprus for both children and teenagers, and managed to utilise various methods of communication and interaction by engaging with dialogue and encouragement while developing a trust-oriented environment.
