'Scandinavian garden'
A digital, maximal statement print for upholstery. Focusing on the beauty of unusual plants, botanicals and passion for joyful colours. An A0 acrylic painting was created using majority of the colour palette, ready to be produced into a large scale repeat. Inspired by photography from Copenhagen's botanical garden, architecture and 1950's patterned mark making.
'Bromeliad fern'
A digitally created, textured wallpaper statement print. Focusing on the beauty of unusual plants and my passion for colour. This maximalist print to scale is large scale to emphasize the pattern and texture hand painted into the composition. A dark ground was chosen for this print to highlight the contrast in colour, pop of coral and orange and to complement the prints with a lighter ground.
'Edinburgh garden'
A registered half drop, 4 layered screen print on 3 metres of heavy weight linen using pigment dyes. Each layer was precisely hand drawn on kodatrace sheets then exposed onto 140 X 80 CM screens. The imagery on this design is inspired by photography from Edinburgh botanical gardens and contemporary pattern and shape motifs.
'Intertwined botanica'
A digital, textured wallpaper statement print. This wild and fun print highlights my style of painting and passion for colour. Inspired by unique photography from Copenhagen and Glasgow. The composition was created using gouache and acrylic paint for textural marks.
'Blu aspidistra'
A mid scale, digital coordinate print for 'Intertwined Botanica', designed for upholstered stools and cushions. Inspired by photography from Copenhagen's botanical gardens and wax African textile inspired mark making.
'Geo abstraction'
A mid scale, digital coordinate print for upholstery, to be paired with 'Scandinavian Garden' statement print. Inspired by abstracted shapes, brush marks, texture and photography.
'Wild foliage'
An oversized, painterly wallpaper mural .This digital print was initially an A0 acrylic painting. Focusing on the beauty of many leaf structures and silhouettes I could find in my photography, then adding pattern to create a fun and contemporary placement print.
'Paradise palm'
A large scale, tropic, wallpaper panel repeat. Highlighting expressive mark making and pattern.
Holly Mae Fergus
Holly is an enthusiastic graduate who specialises in printed textiles. Her final collection illustrates her passion for bold colour and pattern through over sized and unique imagery found travelling to Copenhagen, Edinburgh and Glasgow Botanical Gardens. Her maximalist interior collection is intended for quirky and spacious boutique hotels.
Holly paints compositions spontaneously with colours that make her happy and feel good, she emphasizes silhouettes, shapes and textures found in photos through pattern and mark making to create powerful statement designs. Holly believes when walking into an interior space you should feel inspired and optimistic. She enjoys painting large scale and full content compositions that tell a story, then produces rich, maximal repeats using her excellent CAD skills to create a strong sense of collection for interiors.
Holly’s key inspiration originally derives from her adventurous year in industry, ‘Botanical Fantasia’ portrays her unique discoveries and passions. Holly has never been intimidated by using bold colours in her work, so by introducing pattern into compositions they become quirky and contemporary with a fantasy feel. Whilst in Copenhagen she embarked upon Scandinavian pattern on ceramics and furniture which sparked the idea of researching into the history of pattern. Therefore, she explored inspiring artists from the 1950’s whose purpose was to use bold colour and pattern to lift public spirit after the war. As pattern has a vital part in Holly’s collection, she gathered inspiration from previous collections one being wax African textiles. Holly mixed contemporary and wax African inspired marks to create outlines, tonal elements and texture using different mediums and hand gestures.
Holly is always expanding her knowledge and skills in the design industry, she is a confident, motivated and courageous designer, who is always ready to take on challenges and try new styles. She is ready to flourish in industry as a print designer for fashion or interiors as she believes her style adaptable to both.

Experience
Holly completed 5 varied, design-led roles in London, Copenhagen and Glasgow. Firstly, Kit Miles (August-September 2018), Fusion CPH (October-December 2018), Pattern Textiles (January-February 2019), Bay and Brown (March-May 2019) and Timorous Beasties (June-July 2019).
Holly’s experiences allowed her to appreciate and understand the textile industry as a whole. During her placement year she gained an invaluable skill set that can be adapted to many roles within the design industry. She immensely enhanced her adobe, drawing, designing, sewing, sampling and admin skills, as well as her cognitive, teamwork and communication skills. However, she did face some challenges, one of her biggest challenges was the pressure to draw and create 6-10 fashion prints per week. This placement in Copenhagen involved the most responsibility, pressure and independence. Yet, was one of her favourites because of these reasons. The job roles allowed her to push herself, explore various styles of drawing and express and communicate new ideas, colour palettes and trends with colleagues.
