Joanna Grace Richards

Marking 75 years for Victory in Europe, 'Dig for Victory' explores ways of combining functionality and contemporary design, through the creation of functional and fashionable woven pieces inspired by workwear and durability allowing garments to sustain everyday wear.

The theme investigates British heritage within a modern context, contrasting ideas between political and historical meaning through references to post world war two propaganda. The collection will provoke understanding around the topic of over consumption and waste within both the fashion and food industry. The relationship between food and fashion will reflect ways in which we can grow fibres the same way as we grow food in order to maintain sustainable living. As designers we must produce thought provoking messages to encourage consumers to start shopping ‘eco-consciously’ and avoid buying into both outsourced clothing and food in order to return to locally sourced materials and produce.
