REVLOT
Statement print 138x140cm. Mix media on biodegradable vegan leather. We must create a balance if we want any chance of surviving. We must create a new system, we must compromise old and new. We must rebel.
Clothes for the rebellious
This life size illustration explores how the components of my designs would best sit on the body and what colour combinations work the best.
Screen prints and cut outs
On the left size of this image is two screen printed designs both 59x84cm. 'GEO' is a 2 layer procion print on cotton drill, 'WAKE UP' is a 1 layer print on a hand dyed ombré. On the top right is a cut out variation of the 'GEO' screen print. To the bottom right is a patchwork of two discarded samples on vegan leather.
Digital prints
Stripe coordinate: cotton satin 60x48cm.
Check coordinate: silk sensation 60x48cm.
Perspective GEO: bull denim 400gsm 60x89cm.
Cry face: cotton satin 60x89cm.
THIS PLANET CANNOT SUSTAIN THIS SYSTEM: silk sensation 60x89cm.
Patched UP
This design was created by cutting up two failed samples which were acrylic on biodegreable vegan leather. I repurposed these samples to make something new in order to minimise my waste.
Cry face
This design was composed of serval digital face drawings at the repeat scale of 2.5x2.5mm. The scale being so small to disguise and hide the vulnerability we are discouraged to show. This is printed on cotton satin 60x89cm.
Line up: Part one
This is a one of two line ups consisting of my final collection. The illustrations are hand drawn each at the size of 42x15cm. My designs are both hand drawn and photoshopped onto the illustrations.
Line up: Part two
This is part two of the line up illustrations showing the final print collection for 'Metamorphic Revolution'. Clothes made for the rebellious. Those who want to project subliminal messaging, those who want to create a new pathway to save our planet whilst being fashionable and sustainable.
Hollie Seymour
This body of work intends to raise awareness of the global crisis we are facing if we do not change our current failing system. I have produced a menswear collection, whilst being conscious about the practices I used to be as sustainable as possible.
I have always been cautious of my impact on the environment, and immediately decided my core aim would be to explore a concept that needs further exposure whilst adhering to sustainable practices.
The inspiration for this project formed when I was visiting Lisbon, I noticed the traditional tiled buildings throughout the city were slowly being overlaid with contemporary art work; often activist led and a contemporary aesthetic. This inspired the idea of old overlaid with new, creating a rebellion against traditional preserved attitudes and behaviours represented by the tiles and the consequences we will face if attitudes are not changed in regards of the environment voiced through the new artwork and defacing of the tiles. I have documented traditional tiles and artwork along with contemporary art across the vibrant city to inform my designs and support the building of my concept including weaving, layering and subliminal messaging. Throughout this project I used left over materials to print on, water based inks and paints, along with left over spray paint then moved to a chalk based spray paint to minimise the toxicity.
After extensive research into trend forecasting and referring to my first hand research, I selected colours for my palette that felt suitable to enhance my concept whilst being appropriate for a menswear collection.
The skills I have developed and refined through my education are: advanced screen printing (repeat length, half drop, block repeat), advanced knowledge of dye recipees and print paste mixing, advanced adobe program knowledge, etching, advanced lino and mono printings, heat press operation, intermediate ceramics, knitting, weaving, laser cutting and finally an extensive knowledge of colour.
My career aim is to become a print designer within a fashion company/house.
