The chase is on!

The chase is on!

A scene depicting the Fox having chased the Grey Squirrel up a tree. This artwork was produced as an animation thumbnail to demonstrate the personified, playful characterisation of the animals.

Amelia Harris

I am an illustrator who loves character design and colour theory.

I am most passionate about creating and designing characters which is one of my key strengths. I primarily use Photoshop and my knowledge of traditional mediums to create artwork that is textured, organic and stylised. As for my career, I wish to follow my passions by producing book illustration, editorial illustration and concept art.

My main project, Our Habitats: Mammals, is one entry in the Our Habitats series of products that incorporate a mixture of mediums including books, playing cards and augmented reality technology. This project aimed to provide an educational and entertaining experience for 10-11 year old's regarding the UK and Ireland’s habitats. I wanted to solve the growing problem of children who receive negative impacts on their well-being by being disconnected from nature. The playing cards are used with the Our Habitats: Mammals book to bring nature to life in front of the audience's eyes with the use of the companion app. This app uses augmented reality technology to render animals and habitats as virtual objects in reality. The app also provided a service where the user could earn "combo" points from mixing and matching different animals and different habitats. They could then convert those points into travel miles in the form of e-tickets for public transport on buses and trains which promotes sustainable travel.

Experience

I have produced design work for Heritage Playing Card Company Ltd in the form of a Joker card with the company logo. I used this brief to visually represent the mischievous nature of the character and demonstrate my design strengths.
