Miss Rosie: letting you choose

Miss Rosie is a young girl's clothing brand, which model designs that are typically associated with boys clothing. This project was inspired by my 6 year old female cousin who has a great love for race cars, monsters and sharks etc. Unfortunately, Rosie was never able to wear these types of things growing up as there was nothing in the market available. I found that there is a large issue of gender stereotyping within children's clothing. Through Miss Rosie, I have designed a clothing brand for young girls that allow them to express their love for everything, regardless of their gender.

Above are some of my t-shirt designs with the characters duplicated across the product to create a fun and young look. For the base colour, I chose pastel colours to make the product more uni-sex. By doing so, this emphasised my brand ethic which disregards gender-stereotyping. It was important to keep the colours of the characters bold, bright and realistic rather than adapting them to be more feminine or masculine.

In addition to the t-shirt collection, I decided to design a selection hoodies. These model the same characters and colours as I used in the t-shirt range (available with all 5 of the characters in all colours). I toyed with the idea of designing leggings and skirts, but I decided to design hoodies to enhance the uni-sex ethic of my project.

I am an enthusiastic and highly motivated Graphic Design student. I have always had a passion for design and from a young age knew I wanted to become a graphic designer. My work is heavily based around branding/packaging and UX/UI design.

My main focus is to create work that is visually stimulating, communicates with the target audience and sets a successful brand tone.
All projects I have completed this year have targeted different audiences; the elderly, students and young children. This has made me learn how to successfully adapt the style of my work and alter the way I communicate with the chosen audience. It has shown that I am am capable of creating a wide range of design. I believe that my main strength lies here.

Experience

In 2013 I gained work experience at Saatchi & Saatchi. I worked on their website design, as well as shadowing and creating logo designs. During my placement year (2018-19) I undertook two internships. The first at Hobbs London, a woman's clothing brand. I worked on magazine advertisements, which have since been published and also advertisements for billboards and shop windows. The second was at Team Créatif in Paris, a branding and packaging agency. I worked on a wide range of brands designing their packaging. Some of the brands I worked on were Lindtt, Alter Eco, Nactalia Bio and Joker. Gaining this experience has changed me as a designer and the way I work. My time in the industry has changed the way I approach an idea as it has enhanced my skills. My industry experience has shown me various methods to achieve desired outcomes through exposure to different skill sets in both companies.
