My practice revolves around movement through space and sense of place. I use analogue photography to capture the things that I'm drawn to when wandering through different spaces. I abstract them and bring them together to create a new sense of place within the gallery space.

Psychogeography, the effect of a space on a person’s behaviour, is the main influence on my work. I wander through spaces, photographing what I’m drawn to whether that be buildings, ripples in the beach or creases in my bed sheets. I then abstract those photographs through darkening to the edge of vision so that the image is still subtlety visible when up-close. I use abstraction to separate the images from their location identity and bring them to their basic forms.
My photographs work together as a collection to corrupt and work off each other, rather than as individuals. When the viewer looks at these abstracted forms as a collection, they are reminded of the different places they have experienced. Together a new sense of place is created, rather than emphasising an existing one. Light is reflected off the works surface and depending on where it is viewed from, the work is either abstracted further or able to be seen as a clearer image. It forces the viewer to move in the space to view the work and decipher the forms depicted. I aim to create a psychogeographic experience within the gallery space for the viewer by controlling the way they move through it, letting the space itself affect their behaviour.
I intend to continue wandering through different spaces and capturing the different elements they hold through analogue photography. I would like to walk through Mid Wales as a future project resulting in a photography/travel book. I aim in my career to work for a gallery or arts organisation looking at social inclusion to help encourage people to engage with art.

In my role as Enterprise and Employability Representative for the School of the Arts I liaised with the Careers Network regarding the events they wished to promote, giving them feedback, and being a step between the them and the student. I used social media to promote these events to students, specifically Facebook, using engaging language and regularly created my own graphics to gain interest. I posted regularly on the Loughborough Creative Careers Instagram page choosing eye catching and high-quality images and writing short but comprehensive captions to engage with the viewer in a professional manner. I also put on my own enterprise event featuring a guest speaker to help those students who wanted to start their own practice after university to find out how they might go about it and see what resources are available to them.
As a Welcome Mat Exhibition committee member, I helped organise the exhibitions put on by each studio within Fine Art. I also helped to organise and lead meetings to decide the themes of the exhibitions and tasks were delegated. I enjoyed the experience as it was interesting to see how different each exhibition was and see how each studio worked as a team. It allowed me to learn about managing people, curating and the different elements that go into an exhibition.
