Jessica Peacock

Specialising in Woven Textiles, Jess has a passion for jacquard weaving. Creating exciting and innovative woven designs.

Furthering my knowledge in automotive design, I have created a cohesive, concept collection focusing on public transport textiles. Last semester my project centred around design for single occupancy vehicles. I have developed this collection to focus on how design can encourage the use of more environmentally friendly ways of transport.

All of the yarns used were donated. Sage Automotive Interiors Ltd. donated their post-industrial waste, 100% PET yarn that I have used in my jacquard weaving. Mono-materiality is a concept to support the recycling process. If there aren’t any mixed fibres in a product the recycling process is faster and needs less chemicals, therefore better for the environment. It also means they can go back into production, closing the loop.

Looking at tropical animals, including reptiles and amphibians have been my inspiration. Focusing on colour and tactile structures, I have been able to create fun and experimental patterns of camouflaged animals and bold geometric patterns.

Hopefully my design concept is one that will be relevant for many years to come. The environmental impacts of each individual is becoming more and more important. If we all used public transport to our full potential, the impacts would be massive.

My project is to make those journeys fun and memorable, so you take the tube because you want to, not because you have to.
