Hapalochlaena sapien
[still image from video piece]
Hapalochlaena Sapien is a combination of the Latin names for 'Blue Ringed Octopus' and 'Human'. The original video piece depicts a human animal hybrid wearing stingray skeletons as accessories; staring at its reflection, or perhaps staring at the viewer from underneath the water. This piece was inspired by the hierarchical relationship between human beings and the planet.

My work explores 'Posthuman Drag' - an emerging field of drag created by queer artists to subvert traditional ideas of gender and human identity.
Throughout my work I embody a multiplicity of ambiguous humanoid forms to reflect rapidly shifting codes of human and gender identity. I use Posthuman Drag as a vehicle to challenge what it means to be human.
Focusing on digital manipulation has allowed me to improve my skills in graphic design.
I hope to utilise the skills I have gained at university in a graphic design or art career.
