Millie Long
Although Millie specialises in woven design, she has a flare for highly detailed painting and hand embroidery techniques.
Ethereal Hive is a bespoke collection of luxury woven fabrics for gender neutral fashion.
It is the projects intention to not only satisfy the senses by aesthetics and function, but to also provoke emotion. In todays throw-away society, the lack of sentiment our possessions hold and the contemporary disconnect between people and their garments is symbolic of a greater malice - the loss of connection between humans and the environment. Millie used the honeybee as a symbol to discuss this.
Designing for an extrovert, influential persona, each sample Millie created was inspired and named after a public figure. When the fabrics are worn by such characters, the symbolism behind them will be recognised.
