I am a woven textiles designer with a keen interest in experimenting with a range of different medias combined with traditional weaving techniques.
Our ageing population results in a peak in age- related diseases, such as dementia. 'Interactive Places: Sensory Spaces' is a tactile textile collection which explores the possibilities for improving quality of life for those suffering with the disease through means of multi-sensory stimulation. The woven designs are intended encourage physical and social interaction within a dementia care setting. Taking inspiration from places that we physically interact with throughout our daily lives, the collection is intended to create an interactive sensory space. Considerations for colour psychology and the incorporation of smart textile elements combine to bring this collection to life, evoking pleasant memories for those living with dementia.
Career aspirations include becoming involved in an aspect of the textiles industry that allows me to continue to produce designs that create a meaningful experience for the consumer.
