Rosie Burdon

I use the human figure to tell stories; exploring photography as a means to weave an identity derived from the unconscious headless figures.

My practice explores mind and body relationships expressing the way people present themselves when stripped from the protective shroud of clothing. I focus on revealing parts of the figures my subjects are most uncomfortable with to present the notions of vulnerability. My project was a way to express myself and my own struggles with body issues through the embodiment of others, and looking at the ways we reflect upon ourselves through unconscious and conscious ways of thinking and seeing My strengths lie within the use of black and white photography as I much prefer the qualities between the harsh and subtle contrasts, considering how lighting plays an important aspect within the portrait of the figure in order to cast eery shadows. I use my skills of Photoshop to enhance the original image to exaggerate it's details to exploit the figures natural form.

Experience

I have taken on a series of creative work experience jobs that have helped develop my creative knowledge in a variety of different fields. In 2020, I participated in the MTC 'Visual Impact' Exhibition which introduced me to the ways of presenting artwork for a professional venue, it helped me gain better understandings of curating. In 2019, I joined Selective Marketplace as part of clothing company POETRY and WRAP. I learned how to provide graphics for the communications office which developed my graphic skills. Learning the way shoots are constructed to promote clothing pieces and learning to use programs and software to update a website. In 2018, I joined a company called Artistic Licence which provided entertainment industries with services such as face art and body designs. This job provided me to undergo a series of painting courses which helped me develop the way i paint using the face as a canvas.
