Samantha Ashton
A Graphic Designer, with a specialism in hand rendered techniques, including Linocut printing and painting.
My preference is to present the ideas and inspirations for my design work in analogue mediums, refined with digital software. This has included Linocut, demonstrated on my Good Night Mr Tom book cover and Gouache paintings, used within my children's book illustrative project. My aspiration for the future is to use my tallents in children's book illustration, with an aim to being a book cover artist or illustrator focusing on narratives. Also In the future I'd like to have the opportunity to focus on the moral questions surrounding how disability is visually presented in design, following up on the issues raised in my dissertation and poster project.
Dissertation
Disability: How is this visually characterised in western superhero genre comic books from the 1930s onwards

Experience
A summer placement in 2019 creating digital illustrations to visually demonstrate scientific processes to the general public.
This involved Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign skills to produce illustrations for the carbon cycle in agriculture land sites, as well as layout skills to produce entertainment media for a guided walk around the research centre and an informational document detailing a 2019 conference.
Illustration for a post graduate researcher to be used in a review of a scientific paper, showing cancer cells connecting to a blood vessel, using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. The challenges for this were developing enough understanding of the science behind the illustration to produce the illustration in a timely manner. I had to adapt to another persons style as the illustration was part of a large piece of work.
