Sarah Hampson
A collection of interior textiles exploring an individual response to the Cumbrian landscape, conveying the connection between myself and the mountains.
Walking in the Cumbrian Fells, sketchbook in hand, documenting my journeys through the landscape, created the narrative of this collection. My designs communicate a sense of place and a personal account of my experiences in the mountain landscape.
I enjoy creating designs that are rooted in a narrative concept, painting and drawing instinctively and as a reaction to the landscape. By immersing myself in the Cumbrian landscape, I observed its constantly changing environment, exploring the contrasts in colour, form and texture. My final designs combine a range of materials, textures and expressive mark making to reflect the juxtapositions within the landscape in physical appearance, atmosphere and perception.
